That 1000 limit is the total number of queries made by an IP address using any combination of the WHOIS1 and one or more WHOIS2 proxies. So don't think you can do 1000 direct with Nominet via the WHOIS1, then another 1000 through one or more WHOIS2 proxies to increase the limit. You cannot. This is how I have read it and what I have understood. If I am wrong Jay Daley, please correct me. However I am pretty certain I am correct.
Thanks for clearing that up.

Apart from the 1 query per second limit applied to WHOIS then at the moment, what other limits are enforced now/in the future?

As I understand it from your post, Nominet will be enforcing a 1000 per 24 hour period from each IP?, but this limit can't be active yet as I have queried the WHOIS with 30,000 domains at 1/second quite a few times.
