Sedo are a sitting duck to have the business pulled from underneath them if someone has the skills to build a platform.

I'll throw DomainAuction.co.uk into the pot.

The platform really isn't the problem. It's getting the critical mass of visitors and credibility that's the hard part. I don't see how a home grown effort has any hope of overtaking Sedo and their large, geographically dispersed, full-time staff.

That's not to say for one second that Sedo has been doing everything right, only that the mechanics of the site itself are about 1% of the equation at best (and solvable on elance for a few thousand).

From tiny acorns and all that.......

I think its inevitable that Sedo will get some proper competition soon and i would actually disagree that this is beyond the scope of good developers/marketers to do it. Anybody who took it on would have the advantage of being able to concentrate on the UK market solely whereas obviously Sedo has its eggs in many baskets.

I dont think that many people would need too many reasons to use another service if it was available,Sedo have rested on their laurels for quite some time now. I dont have the time to take anything else on but id love to see some people do it and give them a run for their money.

I'd agree with Rob & Edwin, both valid points - someone specialising in the UK market would stand a great chance of taking on Sedo and taking the premium listings away, lots of people screaming out for an alternative.

At present how many of their UK sales are outwith domainer 2 domainer deals? not a great deal I would guess which would make entry to market very quick and easy, which means with exclusivity someone new could dominate premium domain sales.

I can confirm Skirts co uk did not sell, I told the useless sedo to cancel the deal as the buyer never got in touch and the useless sedo wouldnt reply to my emails asking if they could contact the other bidder who bid £3k.

Im actually glad now as I thought the end price was too cheap personally and will get a site going for it.

So just to reiterate Sedo are a bunch of useless F***wits who couldnt run a bath.

I've thought about launching an auction site, but the take up here for the forum system is quite low. Are people thnking of more an end-user site?

If we did a joint effort would people bother to list their domains?

Let's see how many names we can get on the site, I could add 400....

I could of kept going with my ongoing sagas. Skirts is still unfinished business!

As for the auction site I thought about it but it's chicken and egg. You need traffic for people to post items for auction and you need items to get the traffic. Which is the reason ebay dont have any competition.
