That is precisely it. I usually offer them a Sedo appraisal and they go off into a rant!

Yes, the same thing happened to me last year. They wanted the domain name appraised by a "independent" company.
Stay well clear. They normally scour the domains for sale on ebay, and places like that.

I did respond to this e-mail just to get an idea of what the scam was. I replied with a realtively reasonable asking price and I request to do everything through sedo in terms of transfering the domain.

I got no response whatsoever.

Hi Lesurf,
I'm From The U.s. Chicago, ill.,and That Phrasing Is Used All The Time.in Addition, Escrow.com Is A Very Reputable Company.aside From Auctions,i Would Guess That More Than 50% Of My Sales Are Phrased In That Fashion.plus,in Using An Escrow Acct.,i Don't See How You Could Get 'ripped Off.'

Hello,
My name is Robert Badeaux,i have 2 puppies at hand and they need a proper good and caring home.My grand mother left them lonely after she past away last 2 weeks ago and no body is able to take good care of them and they are cute to be left out in the cold or winter that can cause any harm to them. Also due to my profession i dont have the chance to be able to look after them. The puppies are a Teacup Yorkie and English Bulldog. If you are interested in buying them kindly email me back as for me to make arrangement on how to get them to you for a cheap prices.
Thanks.
Badeaux

This is probably a scam to get you to get an appraisal
I've also seen weird scams where they enquire about a name but the scam is that they try to get you to register the .cn version of your name at their registry.

The traditional ebay scam still works even if you've been paid - so is still the type to be careful of.
eg. you sell something, they pay by paypal, you send the stuff out - then paypal do a chargeback and take the money back even though you have posted the stuff out (you are left with no money and no goods)

The scammer has your goods.

The chargebacks are usually done when dodgy credit cards are used or someone's paypal is hijacked.

I'm not sure how escrow is if there is any chargeback later? Do they protect you against this?
