Grassmarket is good for pub crawls but for a place where you can chat at the weekend I wouldn't recommend it.

Some places I would recommend for a drink only are...

- Standing Order, George Street - Plenty of seating, huge place, cheap (owned my Whetherspoons)
- Lloyds, Omni Centre - Another Whetherspoons venue
- Ivory Lounge, West End - nice during the day, busy at night.

For a meal...

- Grand Cru, Hanover Street - Quite upmarket, nice place, main meal = £9
- Khushi's, Victoria Street - Biggest curry house in Edinburgh, HUGE, BYOB with no corkage fee, main meal = £9
- Living Room, George Street - One of most upmarket venues, pricey but nice inside. Girlfriend recommends it for quality food.
- Opal Lounge, George Street - Frequented by Prince William and Harry, another upmarket venue with nice food.

I used to be a doorman in Edinburgh so if there are any particular venues you want to visit later in the evening, like a nightclub or lap dancing bar, let me know and I'll see what I can do.

If you need accommodation I can recommend that too.

I'll probably just come for a few drinks if that's ok
