i am in the same boat my friend and thus far this is what i could recommend
Look at the prices of domains in the
"UK ONLY Domain Names For Sale"
good to see what is normal price and get any of those "i am going to be a millionaire" figures out your head (which took me a while ha)

Everyone makes this mistake, i did, everyone did, and you probably will, but if i can save one person from it, then ill be happy :P
and yeah, just read up and give it a go really, just dont spend too much money to begin with, it usually all goes down the drain
