I agree with rob, use the negative feedback on the Domain Trader Rating if you know you have been conned, it will help us as well to avoid them.
There will always be fluctuations in traffic but never as much as what you have mentioned, does seem dodgy to me especially if the domain is priced specifically on times revenue.
