hey welshy, i think the answer to the question about affilate sites is that they often rank very hery for small long tail keywords.
by having party poker (dot) com wont be able to get all of those long tail keywords so the gaps are filled with small domains like poker satatistics (dot) co (dot) uk that will get a few people in your door every month.
