Agree totally. I've noticed that some of the themes which are now appearing are getting a lot more complex in terms of being customisable (by tweaking the settings they offer) which provides more flexibilty.
As well as paid for there's free themes that offer this which can only be good.
Having said that sometimes less is more!. I've good converting sites which use pretty basic themes. I believe as long as there's enough unique information and the 'offer' is compelling then you are on the right track.
