I don't think you'll find this guy was on an ego trip. It was simply his way of getting the domain cancelled from his screen with, I guess, a bit of satisfaction (I assume he cancelled after your next bid of £101). I used to go back with £10k counter bids after a £100 bid but I didn't even know sedo allowed a counter bid of £1m - now thats an idea
Seriously though - you can't expect to bid £100 and be taken seriously - not unless the seller is a kid who'd be happy for £30 pocket money (i.e. £100 minus Sedo commission). Try putting your domain portfolio up for sale and wait for the £100 bids on caribbean cruises etc and you'll soon be hitting the £1m button.
I agree though that is extremely churlish to ignore a £1000 bid, unless, of course that it was for a very special one word generic and the buyer has been inundated with low ball offers.
