Affiliate Merchants

Does anyone run a successfull affiliate site?

Or are these things too much hassle for little or no reward?

UK affilliate shopping sites seem to be the easiest as you only have a hand full of processors dealing with transactions. So for example, if cj.com have a minimum payout of $50 it shouldn't be too difficult to reach $50 with cj.com as they have a large amount of reatailers. Same with affiliate window and trade doubler

Looking at the adult industry, there are 1000's of affiliate processors and I'm thinking this is just a ploy to never payout.

I've redirected my o2mobiles.com to mobileshop and it looks on the face of it to be a winner although nothing but visits and page impressions so far.

So who's running affiliate sites - you making any cash...or what?

I'd be interested to know this also.

Mind me asking which mobile affiliate your using o2mobiles with?, i've got a few mobile related fairly high traffic domains just parked...might be worth experimenting.

I know Amazon do their AWS thing, i've looked into it for a little bit but setting up a website for it isn't a straight forward as I would have imagined. (Especially when you have quite a few to do).

Nice sites those Charlie.... but are you making making any moolah?

I've got about 40 specialist domains - all with type in.... and cheapo.co.uk - which was going to be a general shopping site.

cheapo.co.uk is getting 20+ a day since it went on sedo at the weekend.

It takes about a week to build a proper commercial quality site. What I'm after is some advise as to wether or not it's worth my while?

If 40 websites can produce £20 a week each, that's enough to keep me in Vodka and then I'll be happy.

6 months + of time spent developing sites that don't produce will be enough to get me on the hard stuff

trouble with mine are they are all in very competitive markets - the SEO is growing but there are a lot of established domains doing the same thing at the moment i'm just waiting for traffic to grow.
If you put the time in 40 sites should easily get you £20 but on your calcs 40 website is 40 wks work and thats a lot. long term may be worth doing.
Difficult but i know if i had the dedication its a winner - depends really on what google do about affiliate sites possible make or break.

You're worrying me again now Charlie

"depends really on what google do about affiliate sites possible make or break"

Is something about to change? Surely affiliate sites have a good few years in them yet?

i just know that i wouldn't be hard to improve search results by removing sites with excess affiliate links putting more weight on the merchant sites themselves.

do a search for lingerie (it has its benefits) and see how many figleaves afilliate sites are in the top 20.

could be years in it yet though i'm sure google benefits financially as well

I agree, your stuffed if you want a high SE placing.

You need to market in different ways

I see alot of the big shopping affilates bidding on 1p keywords over large number of markets, which gives them a decent amount of exposure.

Also, the reason why we're here, to try and pick up names that will have or once had decent type in traffic.

Once that cookies on their PC, you've got 'em and the majority of web users will never know. Even I hardly ever delete my cookies, it's a lot of agro to go thru and request passwords again etc etc
