| Junior Member | How much could this be worth?
Hello all I'm new here as you may have seen. This is going to sound quite strange but do bear with me. I have never sold domains before so I know nothing about it. I'm not going to give any details of the actual domain or company it relates too for reasons that should be obvious. I registered a .co.uk a few years ago which is very similar to a very big UK company. At some point last year I found a way of linking my domain to an affiliate scheme which takes customers through my domain and straight in to the company site for which I am an affiliate. The money coming in from the site seemed to grow and grow by month and by the end of last year April to April it had taken around £6000 in commission. This year seems to have doubled and from April to November I calculated the domain had taken around £9000 which means it's on course for around £12000for the full year. Now as you can imagine it's been an amazing time for me watching a domain that I paid under £7 for making all this money and I'm not even considering the thought of selling it BUT I am very curious as to what it might me worth? I don't know if it's possible to value it off what it makes? Just on another note I did email the company years ago to ask if they wanted to buy it and they responded with a "No thanks we are not currently looking to add any further domains to our company" or something like that but they do know that I have it. I know you'll want to know what the name is but for now I want to keep it hush while I'm on to a good thing Thanks. |

If it's not a generic, then it's probably "worthless" on a multiple-of-earnings basis because the company could take it off you via the dispute resolution process (or via the courts) any time. The fact that they haven't is no proof (to the new owner) that they won't. In other words, its value to you for the ongoing revenue stream is probably going to be much higher than you could gain from selling it, since very risky domains go for as little as 3-6 months earnings in some cases, and I've rarely seen any go for more than a year's earnings recently. |

You need to read this: Tesco beats affiliate in domain name battle | OUT-LAW.COM If the company decided to take you to court you would lose and they could potentially take back all your earnings. I'm not sure if Tesco claimed damages/costs in the above case but if they did I imagine they were more than you earned in the past year. Grant |
