20 sites or 1 site with 19 pointing

hi

just looking for peoples opinions really.

Is it better to have 20 seperate affiliate sites or 1 main site with 19 domains pointing to different sections of the main site that match the domain name.

for example:

shoppingsite.co.uk, bluewidget.co.uk, yellowwidget.co.uk as seperate sites

or

bluewidget.co.uk => shoppingsite.co.uk/bluewidget
yellowwidget.co.uk = > shoppingsite.co.uk/yellowwidget

and so on

thanks in advance.

Im ny opinion I'd say have 19 sites running with directly related content linking contextually to your main site, and no outbound links on your main site. This would do your main site no end of good as basically it would have multiple links coming in from 19 relevant sites.

It depends on how you want to do it of course, but thats what I'd do.

Question

What if the 19 other sites shared the same IP as the main site (i.e. were on the same server) - does this have a negative effect?

Well in theory yes but in my experience this is overplayed. Ideally they would be on a different IP range altogether, but if they were say split into blocks of 5, so you use 4 server companies, that would be the standard practice.

I forgot to say in the first post when the 19 are built don't link them to the main site for at least 60 days, and make sure they have inbound links in their own right and give them a chance to develop their own credability for 2-3 months. Contextual links only and unique content of course.

As you know from the Google update this week it would also be good to use a CMS as constant updating is about to receive much more credability on the engine, so add one 250 word article per week to each site.

Its a lot of work but if you want to get a site to the top of Google there's no free lunch unfortunately.

I had 3000 parking pages on the same IP and they ranked higher than when they were parked with many in the top 5.

I found this site http://linkdiagrams.com/ in the signature of some expat forum member, can't remember the site or the member, but I did bookmark the diagrams. Amazing how simple it is with a diagram.
