Regardless of who you regged it with you can't transfer ownership of the .co.uk domain, but you can pass the control of the domain to another person.

Even if you use Godaddy's "pass the control" feature on a .co.uk domain, it's still owned by the original person so they can take it back at any time by going direct via Nominet.

Heh. The paperwork always gets people moaning, however I very much prefer Nominet's way of doing things. As you say, control of the domain can be handed over quickly; however ownership is a far more significant matter and IMO the way Nominet handles ownership makes it much less open to hijacking than other registrars. I also like the paper trail generated by requiring signed covering letters for a transfer. I'm less keen about the 30 quid, however can't a financial transaction be used to make an agreement legally binding? I'm sure I recall reading something about this, somewhere. Still, 30 quid is a bit steep.

See other threads on this board about people's domains being moved to other IPS tags without their consent, but not irrevocably due to the matter of ownership. See also the various stories about .com hijackings (has Panix been forgotten already?)
