Post a business tip. EVERY post must contain at least one business tip. So, even if you just want to reply to someone, you MUST include your own additional business tip AS WELL.

    I'll start :D

Be enthusiastic. If necessary, adopt this state of mind. Being enthusiastic about things can help you make a lot of money from them. This is especially true when it comes to the internet, where you'll use enthusiasm to build something where previously there was nothing. Your enthusiasm for a subject will make your site better and keep audiences coming back.

In general, adopt an enthusiastic attitude. If you don't have this attitude naturally (like me!!), then work on it, as it can be developed. This will help you in life as well as in business. People will appreciate a bit of enthusiasm and it will help you network better. If you look at a lot of successful business people and leaders, you will see that enthusiasm has helped them get there.

    Next!

Find webinars relevant to your business and join in. E.g. I was on a Twitter marketing webinar organised by Hoot Suite today. It cost me nothing, but I got some good tips which I can use in the run up to Christmas.

When considering a new business venture, ask the question "How does this solve someone's problem?". A key element of a successful online business will be how you effectively solve a problem for someone.

Be aware of the sunk cost fallacy and don't be afraid to drop something that isn't working, even if you've put significant time and money into it.

That's not to say anyone should give up at the first hurdle - but it's better to fail early and often.

Keep up to date with your accounts. Reconcile your bank accounts at least monthly if not more often.

Just because an idea flopped around the time of the first dot-com crash, doesn't mean that it wouldn't work today given much much much cheaper web hosting and other costs, plus ready availability of sophisticated open source tools.

There are hundreds (thousands?) of companies that failed around the same time. You can dip in and find many of them (including matching discussion threads which give more of an indication of their business model - or lack thereof) via the Wayback machine...

Plenty of the best/worst/most egregious examples were picked up for the book that went with the site...

Remember the importance of specialism and focus. There is a lot to be said for doing one thing very well. Once you have established that "one thing" that is viable, then give it some focus!!

My business tip: Don't take criticism personally. Try to view it constructively, positively and investigate what made the person say what they said. They won't always be right, but often there's smoldering embers somewhere.

Don't start anything new if you have unfinished stuff that still has potential. In other words, make sure you do what is necessary to bring existing projects to fruition before getting distracted by new things.

Create a file where you save "re-usable" Tweets, organised by hashtag. Also reference a relevant image to go with the Tweet. You can then re-use these periodically, and it will also allow you to respond quickly to future events (as you'll often be talking about the same hashtags).
