OK, now my domains are back from the dead with Google, I need to consider SEO.

For example, on the new sites, there will be key primary pages, such as Hartlepool Hotels, Hartlepool plumbers, etc.

I know the keywords such as 'Hartlepool Hotels' should appear in the title, description, keywords, body etc, but is there an optimum number of words for each?

I used to use an online checker, where you entered the keywords, and then the URL, and it gave you feedback, and warnings etc.

I know the best solution is to build succesful link partnerships with extremely credible sites. I did this with the domain bamboo-flooring.com, which got it to the top of the Google results for Bamboo flooring, where it continues to remain! But this takes time, so I'm really looking for easily implemented SEO.

    Thanks.
    Phil

Take a look at seobook.com for training, even spend the money on membership. For tools, try seomoz.org.

I would also use the keyphrase in the page name, i.e.

    hartlepool-hotels.php

There is no substitute for well written informative content on your site pages, and then writing well written articles / press releases and distributing to them to sites that count ... now I just need to take my own advice.

Thanks for that post - it spurred me to search out the rules page to find out the rules myself.

Shame he made the line the wrong length!

    Phil,

seo is just bullshit - although I offer 'it', do 'it' and talk about 'it' to clients its basically just a load of marketing tosh and money for old rope

    - done properly it's pretty much hard grubby work with some common sense - but having a market advantage dthough does help some.

i'm sceptical of anyone selling dir submissions or mentions ethical whitehat jargon etc.

Also looking at what you want to with your geos I think you killed then long ago and it will be a very hard task to make anything of them soon. Even when you do get them to page 1 to monetize them I fear ,will be difficult - not impossible, but it does not come easy just because site somewhere in g.

I think your right to contiue to find succesful link partnerships with extremely credible sites, although people with these rare sites are now less keen to give you what amounts to backlink fodder to juice your site.

    Hmm
Not sure if this is a genuine reply or spam.. that last line doesn't make sense.

As for what the post says - I would say that there is some truth in that but it is somewhat simplistic. It seems that Google is not putting as much weight on links, and more weight on other factors.

Spam? Could be - it seems to be lifted verbatim from here:
http://host-ed.net/blog/tag/link-building EDIT - And a lot of other places now I google it...

But as you say advice is simplistic, not wrong.

These are the basic SEO 'Rules' I follow:

    H1 - 1 H1 tag per page.
Title - present once with a max of 11 keywords to optimize for.
Alt Tag - All images should have an alt tag description
Meta Description - Is what search engines display in the results. Under 70 words or 360 letters.
SEO Friendly URLS - put the keywords in the url
Page Rank Flow - Is the relation of links on the page to your site vs outgoing. Maintain a pagerank flow above 50%
Load time - You want your site to load as fast as possible, optimize images, reduce white space in css, move javascript to bottom, merge css files together etc etc.

Knew I had a link somewhere... Here's a decent article on basic SEO by the guys at SeoMoz. I've put it on a basic intro page, but its worth reading the whole article.

I'll stop now at the risk of sounding like I have shares in them or something.
