Domains are still extraordinary value - aren't they?

Just by way of cheering fellow acorners up in the economic gloom.....

A week or twoback I splashed out a massive..............£50 for the domain manicure.org.uk at DomainLore (bought from GoldFrog, who was superb).

So I have been looking at the beauty business a bit recently, where the price of one decent manicure can be........ £30.

It just seems totally extraordinary how much potential there is in developing some of the domains we all own. What incredible opportunities still exist, especially with lead generation and partnering up with people who have real stuff to sell.

What do other members reckon?

I agree, I think the real sticking point is small business owners who don't really 'get' it. I created a website for a relative for their takeaway business because they had no online presence at all, and GKT showed that there were a couple of hundred exacts for people searching for the business online.

I created a full ecommerce store back in March, even had a cron job to automatically open and close it at the right times. People could view the full menu and order directly from the site.

It's still not live because he hasn't got around to buying a netbook for the shop yet.

The web is just getting more and more important for small businesses to market and sell cheaply and effectively, and yet very few (comparatively speaking) have a website and get it right.

....and the trouble is I can't see this ever changing.

All comes down to marketing and selling. You have to sell the benefits and deliver the results - you'll never get the average joe bloggs small business owner to understand.

In the manicure example I guess it depends on how much time you spend and developing for a term such as this. Competition is going to be fierce plus it's an offline business meaning your going to have to localise your market - if you go national you've got to go out marketing to a whole bunch of businesses who won't get it!

I guess it's the syndrome we all face. The numbers look great on paper but the execution is usually much more difficult without a capital investment behind it.

Smile hi

Really nice to hear a positive post there sussexite.

Can anyone tell me though what is the big deal with .org.uk This is not calling you for buying it by the way it's just that I offered someone today some .infos with key word searches from 18,000 up to hundreds of thousands at a pittance of a price when they were offering £100 for .co.uk;s with only 140 exact searches and they want .org.uk;s regardless of how few searches are made.

Now the way i see it is it's the quality of the content and optimising that that will attract these either 140 or hundreds of thousands of actual searchers / potential customers to a site and as one article I read today rightly implied the consumer / visitor doesn't give a fig whether the site is .co.uk .com or .buttonmoon.
So your .org.uk is as good as a .com if you give your visitors the info / service they want.

Now i remember years ago snapping up up tons of two and three word .coms and .co.uks that no one would buy as everyone wanted one world now the world and his wife are snapping these up so i am trying to understand why the downer on .infos that have the same searches as.com etc.

I think i am just way too ahead of my time again.

was going to post links to some articles that share my view and of one where .infos get good money but not sure if i am allowed to post links here.

Would appreciate someone telling me the mystery i am overlooking re.org.uk and .co uk with hardly any exacts compared to extremely high searched .infos

haven't checked as i am tired but i am sure manicures gets whopping searches.

Have a nice night, looking forward to any light shed. toodle pip

deemee

afaik .co.uk & .org.uk get exact match bonuses in google (e.g rank better quicker)

.me.uk doesn't and you're unlikely to get the .com of competitive phrases

.info's doesn't get exact match bonus

Don't I'm afraid hence the afaik - it's not the kind of thing people would publish, more just something you learn from on the forum/experience
