DomainLore and PayPal?

As there's a DL/domain dispute going on about Paypal payment at the mo in a current sales thread, I was just considering this.

Where does DL stand on this PayPal issue?

I sold a domain earlier this year via DL for a fair price. I'd listed it only accepting Bank Transfer/Escrow. My buyer paid via PayPal, even not listed and insisted on a PP invoice. In my case, I took the hit and lost a few quid, although it was annoying as it all eats into the sale, which in this case wasn't massive.

Could I have technically not proceeded with the sale or insisted PP fees were covered?

DL is clear on the fact that Sellers cannot ask buyers to cover the fees but as a godwill gesture buyers might make the payment via Paypal Masspay.

This is the part where my complication happened. I requested the buyer to use masspay as a request and facing the consequences of the same.

Now the second portion has also been revised since now paypal charges a uniform 2% transaction amount on all mass payment.

In my case its not a DomainLore issue since the whatever happened was beyond their control. Deny's is a very professional guy and I am sure an email to him would clear most of the confusion in your case

It would be useful if a seller could choose whether to add or leave off PP fees to a selling domain when it's actually listed; so, it's clear up front if you pay via PP, the buyer will foot the fees.

Domain Trader Rating:
(100% / 106)
When buying domains, or paying for catches, I always send the PayPal payment as a gift so that the catcher/seller gets the full amount, and the majority of payments I receive are sent the same way by other domainers.

Yes, I try too where it allows - e.g. 'Send as personal payment owed' etc. It's etiquette.

I don't accept Paypal, and I don't tick the box. Several times I've been asked to accept payment that way, but each time I've pointed out that the box was unticked, and supplied our bank transfer details instead.

Just depends if you trust the person. Especially when overseas - I've made sales only to have the buyer dispute the sale and have the funds taken back from me. With non personal payment you have more of a leg to stand on because the fees they take partly pays for the protection you get.

Masspay isn't always an option because I believe you need a premier or business account.

As Edwin does, sellers can deselect the option to accept PayPal. I think that when a buyer sees that the seller accepts PayPal they don't factor in any fees, because either they are assumed to not exist or that if the seller accepts PayPal then they will take the 3% hit.
