Domain development competition 2009

DOMAIN DEVELOPMENT COMPETITION 2009

Hi to all our Internet friends,

With the recession in mind we thought we would start off the new year on a positive note, with a friendly competition.
Hopefully this will be the “cannon ball run” of the internet

We thought that this would be fun and that this idea would show the industry what we can do.
i), You have to be in a team of 3 to 5, so there will have to be a bit of collaboration between people in an industry that keeps its cards very close to its chest.
ii), You have to use a never ever registered .uk domain name.
iii), It will make good use of a domain name.
iv), It should earn your team some money.

And why would you want to do this. Well there’s no prize at the end other than been able to say you did it, conquered it and were the best team in 2009. And of course if you made money and new working colleges then you are a winner whether your tem won or not.

The rules.
i), Teams should be a minimum of 3 people and a maximum of 5.
ii), In the interest of the environment, team members should live in the UK and must attend meetings with each other using public transport (cheating is permitted but be imaginative).
iii), It must be a fully functional, content rich, user friendly website, no porn or gambling.
iv), The chosen domain name must be a .uk and must never have been registered ever before(checks will be done with Nominet, not) and we must be told of the name you intend to use by 1st February 2007
v), No imported help. All work must be undertaken in the UK.
vi), All teams must be open to ridicule by any other team member or any member of the public
vii), Each team will have its own forum blog, kindly sponsored by Acorn Domains.
viii), Closing date for entrants 26th January 2009, competition starts 1st February 2009 and ends 31st January 2010
ix), Each team must supply their team name, email and telephone contact details for each member, their chosen domain name and geographical location by the closing date.
x), Cheats will be exposed and put on trial by their peer group. Any suggestions for punishment would be greatly appreciated, lol

Extra points will be given for innovation, design and best single earning campaign or sale in any given calendar month.

How about, since the winning team will have made the most money, they throw a party in London next February to allow themselves to gloat to everyone how well they have done.
The bigger the party, the bigger the gloat.

Good luck to all, from the idiots that came up with this idea.

Yep up for this. I'll try and get a group from Ilkley together - any old excuse to meet for a coffee now and again.

do you not all think it is a good idea to post the domain here when purchased then people can keep an eye on all progress?

I think the concept is excellent. A great idea for a forum to present to its members. I also believe that this one should be .uk only.

how are earning to be presented. sometimes its not that easy to prove and a degree of honesty will be needed? And to clarify, the site can be used in any way so long as its live with no porn or gambling? I also think expenditure should be revealed so true profit is visible!!

I think the .co.uk/.org.uk limitation is a shame, as it caps global reach. Not that I'm that imaginative, but some others might be more motivated building a site designed to appeal beyond our shores!
