![]() | DEV CONTEST 2011: Customer Service Number (It's org.uk)
I've gone the domain in the thread title, hoping to get some decent traffic from long tail, Will have a page for all the big searches along with some sort of Q&A thing for asking/giving customer service numbers. Not sure how much money is in it as I'll be limited to adsense but will see how it goes! Updates will be here as things happen.

Great idea - I was actually searching for Natwest Bank tel banking number today (usually use online) and it took me ages to get it, even via their own site!

Yes, it's a great concept, especially if you can list multiple numbers where relevant (e.g. this number's for tech support, this one is for billing enquiries, etc.) Your biggest problem is likely to be sourcing the data, since it's "how long is a piece of string" territory in that there could be tens or hundreds of thousands of entries, potentially. I wonder if this is something that you could set up as a Wiki, seed with a thousand listings or so through manually seeking them out, then crowdsource the other 99% of the project...

BTW, here's a pointer to what should probably be your first few entries... Grab yourself a notepad, then go to Google, and type "customer service" Now move your cursor back to the start of the line, i.e. just in front of the "c", and type "a". Google will suggest 10 searches that are "aSOMETHING customer service". These suggestions are based on past searches, so you can bet there should be some good query numbers for them. After you've jotted down the "a"s, go back and delete the "a" and replace it with a "b". Bingo, 10 more suggestions! By the time you get to "z" you should have I would guess between 150-200 usable search phrases to work with (some letters won't give you many results, and some suggestions will be irrelevant) Good luck!

![]() | Strength in numbers. If the site becomes "popular enough" then even a tiny fraction of a fraction of all visitors becomes a useful number of clicks.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far, going for pages with content for the top 10 I've found on the KWT, then will work through some smaller searches hopefully pick up some traffic from them. Will also be adding a "what is this number" sort of question and answer page which should hopefully generate some free content with people asking and answering questions, Will see how it goes! I agree with Edwin regarding the adsense, people do seem to click them whether they really need to or not, and If I can get some steady traffic, then traffic should generate a few clicks! It also gives me a chance to make some different rates of click from the different company pages. Having pages for loan company numbers could generate a £1/3 a time, so random clicks on them aren't unlikely.

![]() | 04th September 2011 Update Done a small bit of work on this last night. Done a bit of research into the most searched companies, they will have there own "page" (wordpress). I've changed the design of the category display on wordpress to act more as a directory. The questions and answers is pretty much finished, that can be seen here. I've chucked a link on a PR3 and a PR1 site on mine and content will be ordered this week. Current expenditure is standing at £0. I'm trying to keep costs down as much as possible as I've not got the affiliate route to go down so need to maximise adsense profits. I've also added a link in my signature here and one other site I visit. UPDATE ** Starting to get indexed on google, two searches today through search engines, will do a report at week including the other five searches I estimate lol!
