I recently restarted one of my sites, from suspension and it had adsense on it. I don't use adsense anymore but was looking at the source code and noticed something odd, it wasn't my adsense code.

I searched my files and database for it and couldn't find ca-pub-4599986973798951 anywhere.

Did a bit more digging and found some references to this, now I ain't a big coder but wondering if this is communicating back with the mothership and getting a code to insert? if so it's a bit naughty. Does it ring any alarm bells with you guys? its an adsense module on Joomla and loads of people use it, I presume unaware.

not a big coder either, but yea it looks like it. Beware this stuff can also get you in trouble with your adsense account since they don't allow messing with the adsense code in their tos

You got some other files on the server as well.
Check for new folders in your root directory.

Cheers guys will do, I got an email back from one of the guys that designed the module...

We’ve received a mail with the same issue yesterday, we are so sorry
for any problem caused by our extension.
We found that one of the test servers (that test if you entered a
publisher id and if it is in the correct form) was down this week,
that’s why this happened (puts some locally generated demo pub-id) .
We’ve correct this and we create a new version to prevent this even if
any server will be down.
We apologize for this issue that will never happen in the future, just
download the latest version from here:

I don't understand why it needs to call back to base anyway. They do that across 30,000 sites and they are raking it in.

Anyone fancy earning a bit of money removing the code from the script to stop it calling home. I have tried deleting it but stops it all from working.... php not a massive skill of mine unfortunately.
