Unless you are the best droppie in the land.

It's unlikely to drop today - especially since there was a massive drop of 5/6/7 October prenoms yesterday.

You only ever get a big dropday like that once every 5-6 weeks - the last one was 28 December.

    Whatever, tagnames will get it!

Incidently - did anyone see Leisure.co.uk drop again yesterday??? - I may be wrong but I could have sworn it already dropped in December!

How can you tell it will drop today?
What are the best ways to go about catching these domain names?
    Thanks

You wait until Nominet (DAC or WHOIS) show it as being available. Then to get an email off to automation and buy it. On average you will have about 50mS.

As to it dropping in December. At the time WHOIS was returning a lot of incorrect results. It probably 'dropped' several times.

    Thanks.
Is there some sort of programme I can get hold of to do this? Or is it a case of keep checking the availability of the domain name?
To register a name that has been dropped in 50ms seems impossible!

    There's the rub!

This forum is filled with the experts all trying to do the same thing.

FCDomains is one of those experts and he posted with tongue in cheek making it sound simple.

It isn't and even if you are one of the best programmers around you have several months programming ahead of you to compete.

And remember they are all improving their systems and strategies all the time.

If only life was easier !

    Thanks aqls
I don't think I'll have much chance catching that perfect domain name then!

It depends on the domain name. If you try and catch cheese.co.uk manually then you'll have no chance. But if it's something more obscure such as 3cheese.co.uk or blackcheese.co.uk then you may well succeed.

    Good luck!

A Tag cost nothing and few lines of code could easily check whois and send an email.

Downsides only 10,000 checks per day and £80 if you do catch it :D

Cave.co.uk dropped today.. so who knows maybe it will drop.

Are you joking? I swear there's an automated system out there by millionaired domainers that simply goes round pitching two words together continously and registering them. It's the only explanation. :D

You're not far wrong. .com is suffering badly from a practice that is currently allowed there but not in .uk. They are seeing extremely high volumes of names registered that are then hosted on a ppc site. If they do not generate enough revenue then they are cancelled before the billing date. This process of course is entirely automated.

Very tongue in cheek on my part, this domain stood out on the list aqls posted of interesting domains coming up. i have only got into this to reg a few names i wanted to use myself (although i have picked up a few others on the way) the best of those being aplaceinspain and i-coach (which shows how bad my others must be!)

I simply don't have the knowledge to script myself so am resigned to manually regging ones no one else wants or bunging Chris £30 to try and catch some for me. And as i haven't got any really saleable ones nor am i likely to i can't even afford to keep chucking £30 at things to place on namedrive to earn $1 a month if i'm lucky. I don't really think i am going to be much competition to anyone.

So if anyone feels like helping me set up a script......... ;)
