Registration status: No longer required

a particular domain is showing this on the whois lookup result, the
the domain is registered till 2011

any ideas on what will happen in this instance?

Domain remains registered until 2011. On expiry the domain name will be [renewed/suspended/cancelled] like any other.

cheers for that, does the original registrant still have control of the domain? i.e. access to it to change tags/transfer it?

yes � registrant retains full control of the domain.
