if you do anything about the olympics on that domain, they will lynch you.

Seeing as this is just a 4 digit number I dont see any issues, as long as you use it for something other than an Olympics site - particularly as you've owned it since 2003 and the TM has only just been applied for.

The first thing I would do is stop parking it - the related links are currently showing stuff like 'London Olympics 2012' - this will potentially get you in deep sh*t and at the least will be the ammunition they need to take it from you (and maybe sue you).

As for value, I'd say it's very limited unless the Olympics folks decide to buy it.

I'd have a look through companies house and bang some letters out to the quite considerable number of companies called 2012... something Ltd.

Get rid!

I think it's ridiculous that they think they can trademark a number, but at the same time as others have pointed out, don't make it easy for them by pointing it to a parking page that brings up Olympic results. If you want to do anything with the name, use it to sell calendars or something (and put a countdown clock on it that hits zero at midnight on New Years Eve 2012)

Thanks to everyone for their replies.

The nearest comparison I could find is 2 0 0 8 .com which is owned by someone in Sweden and their site is modelled around Beijing!

I'd just point to a blank page, you're not infringeing anything then and as previously mentioned if you've owned it since 2003 it wasn't registered in bad faith either.. If anyone from an olympic source wants it they'll get hold of you im sure, i'd guess they would offer you about £750 for it as an offset against any legal costs to secure the name..
This is from a similar experience of my own.

How the hell can they trademark a sport name ?

I may try and trademark 'and', all you lot are going to pay me, coz i'll own the word and its meaning to add or group things :P

I think I'll license the use of it, 10p a time ?
