A few .coms for appraisal

I haven't seen any other people posting .com appraisal requests, so I apologise in advance if this is breaking forum rules and will delete this post if requested.

I would appreciate a valuation of the following domains...all recently registered so no significant traffic stats to date...need appraisal for domain only, no sites yet...and what domains you think have development potential.

lisons.com (French for "Let us read")
modchippers.com (Caught this one thanks to a drop list here )
cheapwww.com
soundsnap.com
treblesound.com (you know...bass/treble )
treblesounds.com
soundtreble.com

Thanks all,

J.

take the comments constructively. I would have thought your best bet is to point all the "sounds" based domains at one site and try and develop some traffic for them - perhaps coupled with a site you might shift them or make some money back on your registers

Well I will take the comments constructively, but I think your exaggeration is a bit unnecessary. None of the domains contain a dash or number, they are all quite short, make sense if you know what they relate to and I have been told by others that some have development potential - thus don't qualify for "the worst names ever registered" - I mean look at sedo.com and you'll see people trying to sell ridiculous names that are not even words.

Might interest you to know I received 2 offers for lisons.com this morning! A one-word French language .com related to books certainly does not qualify for "the worst names every registered" category you've put it into.

That said, your comments are appreciated and are quite interesting in comparison to the reactions I've had elsewhere.

Isn't it typical - someone asks for opinions - gets those opinions and then gets all shirty,

You asked what people thought and people told you. If someone wants to broker a sale for you then they will tell you anything you want to hear - contact an estate agent or a solicitor as examples of this.

The people on this forum do have some experience in domains and you should respect their views - you must also understand that their opinion is just that their opinion and they could be wrong!

I have no problem with people having their own opinions. If someone posted "reg. fee" thats fine by me, thats their valuation. But for someone to say something as ridiculous as they're the worst names ever registered might have a negative influence on someone who initially thought they weren't bad names. If you are giving an appraisal, you give an estimate of what you think they are worth, you don't make wild claims about them.

I am interested in people's opinions. I did post here looking for an opinion and I respect all others' responses, whether or not they think the domains are worth anything. I just believe that if you are going to criticise someone else's domain(s), it should be in a constructive or non-subjective manner. I wouldn't ever consider branding someone else's domains as "the worst names ever registered" - there's no need for that, we're supposed to be trying to help people, not discourage them.

Thank you to everyone else for your comments.

Ok, Reg Fee.
Why? Because every one of those names is free to register as a .co.uk .net and .org

Also I see lisons.fr is free to register

Sorry if I caused offence, not my intent. However, If you are not prepared for someones opinion you shouldn't ask We all register some poor names from time to time, I remember the first time I registered a few names, I ended up blowing £2k, wish someone had made me think a bit more then

Personally I welcome any comments about any names I post, good or bad, anyone who has any negative comments about any of my names please fire away you won't offend me, might help me decide what goes to the bottom of the development pile and make me think twice next time.

The way I see it there are two types of domains, ones that add value to an online business and ones that don't. If it doesn't add value why would I or anyone else buy it off you when I could go and register another one for £5.18 +VAT

What adds value in my opinion:
1. Trust and Credibility by association - Names such as loans.co.uk if I went to this site I would assume that it must be a big company and I could trust them, just by name association.
2. Descriptive - such as carloans.co.uk you would know exactly what to expect and be able to remember it next time you wanted to visit. The downside is you would be limiting yourself and find it difficult to sell other things such as personal loans.
3. Traffic - Any domain is worth something if it has traffic. Anyone who has a site with over 500 uniques a day feel free to PM me
4. Short and brandable - such as google.com or toys.co.uk
5. Age & History - Any site that has a long history and old links built up over several years (not ones that had 2 links last week and 2000 today)
6. Type-ins - usually short and descriptive or typos

If your domains don't fall into one or more of the above then they probably fall into the final category - ones with potential , in other words, pretty much unsaleable (you might get lucky) but might be ok to develop yourself.

Some things can actually drive people away in my opinion. loanscar.co.uk as an example says second rate to me and I would not trust my money with them. And as a developer I would not take it even if it was free, I would rather have something like A1carloans.co.uk

Again this is just my opinion please take it as just that.
