my site gets 60k+ uniques and 200k+ page views a month..

My site growyourownshit.com gets 60k+ uniques and 200k+ page views each month even though it has not been worked on for ages, four months ago it used to get 100k+ uniques a month.

as you can see there is no revenue stream as I have done nothing to it but can anyone give me an indication of what its worth or an indication of what it could make if I spent some time and money developing it properly?

cheers

Russell

You don't need to spend a lot of money on this - what you need is a programmer to hook you up to a simple shopping cart interfacing with phpbb so that you can sell poster related items, lamps and all the other related items that you could legally retail.

To put a value on the site alone would need some more information being given up. Is the number of uniques static or growing? In other words is the trend on an upward curve.

Search engine placements for major keywords (where are the sign ups coming from)? What application is the site written in (open source or custom programmed) and is is a mysql database etc. A lot of the info can be easily gleaned and if you are still using onestat.com as Alexa.com says you are then that would be a big bonus.

My view would be that until the site can prove that it can make money then it's not very valuable. So to value it on it's membership base alone I'd say you are looking at low £x,xxx for the site.

There is always the possibility that you have a membership base that you will always struggle to get them to part with their cash and if that's the case then the numbers may be impressive but without real meaningful revenue it's not worth a lot really.

On the flip side, if you can develop even a small amount of revenue from the existing membership base (say £500 per month) then you have a site that is worth 50k plus. I'm basing that on 3x yearly revenue plus potential for development.

Look in the back of private eye mag and see if you can team up with some of the retailers who proliferate the ad's pages and I'm sure you could sell advertising space to the tune of £1,000 per month in no time at all.

Wow - thats impressive stuff, I never expected such a full response thanks for that.

The site is PHP built with mysql database. Im not sure about onestat as I bought the site so the previous owner prob had that set up. A number of the sign ups come from the search grow weed as it is on page 1 for google on this.

The membership grows by around 50 a day and I have 40k email addresses to contact players who may not have played for a while. There has been a fall in visitors - I put this down to my lack of interest and time over the last few months and that since I bought it the game code has needed tweeking which still hasnt been done. I plan to have it re designed shortly by a top design company as it looks very boring at the moment, and I am going to add funny videos etc in a www.dumpalink style (which I have seen grow to 1.3mil pageviews a day from abount half that in 3-4 months). This should encourage the 60k people to com back on a daily basis rather than them only visiting a couple of times a month - so I expect traffic to grow quickly and members to increase also.

There are plenty of head shops affiliate programs offering 10% off the sale of pipes etc and i have spoken to a lady who was taking £300 from 3000 monthly uniques from a site with content related to mine so I expect there could be a good income to come from that.

It still has to prove itself but looking at the above what could its potential be value wise...? I have no idea about these things - is 50k realistic or would it be worth a fortune if the above came off?

£500 per month = 50k plus.

In the real world it would be more like 5-10K

Every site is a little different but a good guide would be to expect 10 months revenue as a sale value. Some say more some less, of course there are things that will affect the value like, domain name, amount of unique content, where and how you get your traffic etc. etc..

If you get it that far, it would be possible to expand that, then why would you want to sell?

There are too many sites with potential... could be worth doing the work on it and making it a reality then ask for valuations

sorry, I sholud have explained better -two days ago i was offered £2500 for it by someone who had been given incorrect stats of 10k uniques a month instead of the 60k it really is.

this is why i am asking - he seems very keen and will probably pay £5k+ but i have always seen the site as having potential but have never had time to do anything with it. Thats why I need advice on what people think it could be capable of before I just hand it over. If it has serious potential I will do the work on it - but if its going to be a non starter £5k isnt a bad price.

what worries me is the chap who wants to buy it is the diector from a top canadian online marketing company!
