| Member | WiBro domains... any value in the future?
Has anyone heard of the WiBro rush that has been going on for a while now? All the "good" WiBro .com domains are gone by now. Does wibro have any future in the UK market? I happen to own a few domains (such as wibromibilephones.co.uk)but I am not sure of its marketing potential. Anybody has any usefull info on this subject? Thanks Petros |

Hi petrosc, Like a LOT of current and emerging technologies in the telecommunications sector WiBro like the others are stop gaps until 4G comes along (see link: http://www.itu.int/ITU-D/imt-2000/do...sion3_Yoon.pdf), so you may be lucky, you may not, it's a bit of a gamble. On the other hand 4G is going to be something special (trust me!), unlike 3G which has ended up as a bit of a damp squid Unfortunately 4G isn't going to be commercially available for another 5 years or so Cheers, Sneezycheese. |

Wibro doesn't sound very UK centric, it reminds me too much of inner city hoods, I can't see that catching on, they may call it something else. Then again... It's like an american wheelchair maker calling their wheelchairs spaz machines or something like that, it doesn't translate well. |

wiBro is interesting but I think WiMax may become the industry standard term for it. WiMax is over miles instead of wifi's yards and is currently being tested in the uk with some rollouts in major US cities this year. I thought it was good enough to pick up these http://wimaxaccess.co.uk http://wimax-london.co.uk http://wimaxmanchester.co.uk amongst others definately a long term investment tho.

Wibro has alot of Backing--- Italy Will start Wibro in 2007 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Friday February 10, 8:48 PM T. Italia eyes WiBro wireless broadband from 2007 TURIN, Feb 10 (Reuters) - Telecom Italia will launch WiBro services in Italy from early 2007 after testing the wireless broadband technology at the Turin Winter Olympics, CEO Riccardo Ruggiero said on Friday. Telecom Italia had said it would set up some 50 demonstration terminals equipped with WiBro -- the mobile, South Korean version of wireless service WiMax -- at the Winter Games, in the first large-scale demonstration outside Korea. "(Telecom Italia mobile arm) TIM will progressively introduce a service based on WiBro technology from early 2007," Ruggiero told a news conference. "From 2006-2007 you will be able to have multimedia available anytime and anywhere you want." Ruggiero, who said early testing at the Olympics would look at WiBro coverage, declined to detail the investment involved. Korea's Samsung Electronics is due to provide the handsets by June. Former monopoly Telecom Italia is racing to claim a bigger slice of the mobile and Internet market and says it will be the first in Europe to offer WiBro. WiBro services -- which allows people on the road access to the Internet at the speed of current fixed-line broadband connections -- are expected to boost the income of telecoms companies in mature markets while facilitating education and healthcare in rural areas. I think my Gamble is going to pay off bigtime!!!!!! Here's another one---Wibro Launching in Canada The Ministry of Information and Communication said on January 25 that Silicon Valley Overseas IT Support Center (iPARK) at the Korea IT Industry Promotion Agency exchanged a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for cooperation in DMB and Wibro with the Telecommunication Laboratories, the largest information and telecommunication laboratory in Canada. The ministry discussed with the authorities of Canada federal government and Alberta provincial government about a pilot service related to DMB and Wibro in the fourth quarter of this year and decided to aggressively support the MOU between KIPA and TR labs. DMB developed by a domestic technology has made the fourth debut on overseas stage following Germany that agreed to a pilot broadcasting service for the relay broadcasting of the World Cup in last April, England and Mexico in last September. Wibro is also shifting up gear to break into global market. The two parties agreed to cooperate in conducting a pilot business in such areas as DMB, Wibro, home network and digital contents and exchanging information, a joint seminar and a joint incubating. They also agreed to cooperate in utilizing research facilities and test infra of TR labs, participating in joint research, taking a field trip for an advance technology and developing human resources. Now that the MOU includes the pilot program where both governments and an private enterprise participate focusing on spreading DMB and Wibro, the Alberta provincial government, the Canada federal government and the Ministry of Information and Communication discussed to shape it together. ”°We will form a taskforce team where both governments, laboratories, communication businesses and manufacturing companies participate soon and announce the result discussed in the APEC information and communication meeting held in Calgary in upcoming April.”± ”°We expect them to extend to across the North America,”± said an official of the ministry |
