general appraisal on .co.uk / .org.uk

Hi

As the .org.uk extensions seem to be rising a bit in value, can anyone give me an idea / generalisation on the value of a .org.uk vs a .co.uk

eg I would probably guesstimate 5-10%

so if phones.co.uk was sold for £175k, would you say phones.org.uk is worth £8,750 - £17,500 ?

Looking forward to people's opinions on this

My guesstimate 2-5%. The problem is that the .org.uk just doesn't have the same prestige value and as it isn't the country top level domain the commercial case can't be made, so a fraction of the value.

The highest sale I know is Genealogy.org.uk at £3,000 (see domainprices.co.uk)

I think they will only increase as the .co.uk gets more expensive to obtain.

A lot of generic single keyword .org.uks dropped this week and were snapped up, I managed to uniforms.org.uk as an example.

I don't expect to sell it as a domain but developed should make a return one way or another.

Anyone sold any .org.uk ?

domainstack is on a distinguished road

I think (and this might be just me) that in some quite specific circumstances, a .org.uk has more authority, and seems more trustworthy; for example, if you had (picking out of thin air) debtadvice.org.uk or bereavement.org.uk I can see that they might have more mileage and more trust than debtadvice.co.uk and bereavement.co.uk, which might seem too commercially driven - so, maybe, if you were going to build a basic information site which gathered email addresses for a mailing list or something, the .org.uk might perform better. Whether that translates to actual value or not is debatable.

Also, whether it's a subtlety lost on many internet users is also probably open for discussion - I wonder how many people actually know the difference between .co.uk and .org.uk and what the distinction is meant to be? Do people just look at them and think "that's a funny web address"? Maybe .org.uk owners should start a low-level PR campaign making .org.uk the symbol of trustworthy touchy-feely caring sharing websites, rather than tooth-and-claw-commerical ones!

That's a good insight domainstack, I totally agree with you.

I'm going to develop a couple of mine, consoles.org.uk for example (doesn't fit with what you were saying) and see how they go.

Some good points domainstack

In some cases could the right .org.uk be worth more than .co.uk

For example, it's arguable that something like doctors.org.uk is worth as much or more than doctors.co.uk.

How about hospitals.org.uk versus hospitals.co.uk?

It's really hard to use a broad brush. For ordinary good generics, excluding the examples above, I would hazard a guess at around 5%

Well, nobody nibbled at my properties.org.uk when I put it on sale the other day for under 2K - yet I think we'd all agree that if it was .co.uk it would be worth well into the hundredS of thousands of pounds. So in that case the difference is 98% or more!

doubt if anyones going to spend 2k on a .org.uk that probably needs lots of £££ spending on it to make it remotly decent site. Just because its a generic doesn't mean it commands a mega price - its almost too generic, its not really a buying phrase.

properties _co_uk not 200k+ imo - property _co_uk closer and the better term.
