Please share your thoughts on Blackpool.co.uk

Blackpool.co.uk is my most recent major acquisition (and my most expensive purchase to date - NDA so no specifics, sorry) so I'm curious to hear what you think about it?

Great name - I have Morecambe and so I guess you could do something similar. (but put more time in than I did!)

Wordpress, forums, business listings etc.

About your NDA, you're the buyer so you probably could tell us if you wanted to!

Very nice, I'm sure I enquired about it at some point... yep just checked and I emailed Phill in June. I'm crap at valuations... however I do know that domain has plenty of potential to be developed out into it's own business, sky is the limit with the amount of shows & accommodation. If you had a B&B/Hotel there you would constantly get hassled to be in this or that directory, listing, site so you may need more than a good generic to entice people. Someone once said to me if you develop a geo domain at the start when there is little traffic it's important to get advertisers on board and get them to pay something, even if it's £1 a year. Much easier to go back to them and increase their listing when the site takes off than going from free to paid.

Anyway, lovely domain name Edwin, congrats on your purchase you must be pretty happy with it.

Lovely name, I think its the most popular seaside town in the UK?

However, I went there once and Jesus Christ, what a toilet. The place is an absolute hole, covered in top to bottom in filth.

Great domain, although much easier to develop if you live in Blackpool rather than Japan

I wouldn't quite go that far but I can understand where you're coming from...
Went to the Blackpool Magic Convention a couple of years ago and had a superb time, although didn't stay overnight.

I believe it still is, though Wikipedia suggests its popularity is waning. Still, the name itself averages 50 typeins per day so it seems plenty of people are still hungry for information.

Yes, that's a good point, though I think I've managed a reasonable crack at some other places (e.g. Cambridge.co.uk) remotely, from what I was able to trawl painstakingly out of the search engines. Having said that, I've never even been anywhere near Blackpool

Thanks for all the feedback so far - I'd love to hear more opinions!

I'm afraid that I have to agree. I went there two years ago and I also found it to be an absolute pit. There's hardly any money there and now the Super Casino scheme doesn't appear to be happening I cannot see things changing. The place appeals to people seeking low budget holidays in the north or stag/hen parties. The actual town is God awful. Since visiting I have decided that I will only ever go again if I fly in and fly back out. Even then I would find it hard to pick a decent hotel. If I remember correctly all the political parties have stopped using the place for their conferences because none of the hotels are good enough.

If you can get it to make you a return on your investment, good for you. Personally I think I'd be bored trying.

It's not as bad as that. Sure, a few decades ago seaside resorts were more popular and Blackpool was the best, but it's still up there for many people. People from around the country still make trips to Blackpool when the illuminations are on (a yearly switching on of lights all down the promenade). Usually switched on by a celebrity...

I think that the area will have some investment - the only question is when?
