Hey,

Does anyone have any thoughts on this domain name.

I thought it was a good punt seeing as brazil are always favourites and also the 2014 world cup is being held in brazil.

I'd really appreciate any thoughts as I'm a newby at this game.

I'm pretty sure FIFA have trademarked 'World Cup' and will probably go on to trademark 'Brazil World Cup', 'World Cup 2014' etc.

I don't know the ins and outs, so I stay away. You might be fine.

i cant see FIFA registering World Cup there are many other events called the world cup Hockey, Rugby, Cricket etc

They've trademarked the lot. Run a search in the text field -

Intellectual Property Office - Trade marks - find by mark text or image

It's understandable, I suppose. corporate image is everything these days.

Also, if I was looking for odds on football matches I'd simply go to betfair or various bookies.

For both these reasons I think this is not worth anything.

To me, the name sounds like it could be construed as passing off, as it contains the trademarked text.

My understanding is also that world cup domains are a no-no as far as football is concerned, but then only the other day I was Googling "when does world cup 2010 start" and saw a site using a world cup domain. I still wouldn't do it though.
