Finally got my first site finished www.leytonorient.co.uk and would appreciate some feedback. The only bit not finished is the bbc news on the home page as i'm waiting on their approval. Or alternatively to come up with some more content ideas!
I thought the ronaldo thing was a good angle for a bit of pr!

It's a bit more than just an affiliate site, I am a fan and aim to expand. If there's any o's fans out there or general football fans then please do join the forum and post!!!!

    Thanks in advance
    Andy :D

Nice site, I used to be independent seven years ago before a network tempted me with £10,000 a year, doubtless to say the bstards don't pay me that much anymore but should do. Good luck with it, it's a thankless task which is why I hardly do it anymore, but as soon as they up the wedge I'll be able to get someone in to run the site proper.

Some nice use of programs, I sometimes wonder if I'd get more per impression and clicks and sales than I do at the moment, maybe one day I'll find out. Be careful on the fixtures front though otherwise your site will come down quicker than the time it took to put up.

I saw an orient domain sitting on deleting, it wasn't that one was it? hehe

    Cheers
    Lee

Cheers Lee. What do you mean about the fixtures?

I picked it up off deleting. It had an ov of 114 and pr 0f 2. It was owned by the club who have the .com. the ov dropped off tho' and it disappeared from google & co but I hope to get it up there again!
Hopefully i'm not stepping on their fingers? it is a fan site so hopefully all will be ok. :)

I saw it but left it alone, I'm Millwall. I had no use for a site of that kind.

Fixtures are copyright and require a yearly subs off the FA, it's a rip off but the press enjoy the monopoly so agree to pay an agreed amount to keep it out of the hands of most but still priviliged, cost effective and beneficial to the few.

If the club operate from the same keyword then they may get the hump but you'd know your club better than me, I have trouble understanding the seven letters that run ours.

They may want it but then they shouldn't have let it drop. I have my club's .net, I might phone a director and try and get them to buy if I don't do a sale soon hehe . If they want it all they have to do is ask and it's theirs for beer money as I only caught it to stop others taking advantage. like they have the .com

Nice looking site. I'm a Palace fan myself.

Perhaps consider putting something on the site saying unofficial site or similar.

Install SEF URLS mod for PHPBB.

Definately remove the fixtures, i remember cpfc.org having problems with fixture lists.

    Thanks All.
Home page on the forum works for me on 2 different pc's?

I'll think of swapping the fixtures for something else then, but can't believe it's that much of a big deal, as you can find them everywhere? I'll see if the club say something and if so i'll take it off.

I think I will put something like unofficial as there's still inbound links with it as the official club site!! I've already had 2 requests for trials and 1 for a dvd (I did point them to the official site!)

What's SEF URLS mod for PHPBB?

    cheers

I used to get that and I wasn't even the official site, just used to be good at out performing the official site. After several years you grow up I think. I still wish I had the time to put out a great site but the company I'm contracted to are lousy, until they address the terms it'll never be the same.

Search Engine Friendly URLS, it will help the forum get indexed by the search engines and get better rankings than the standard URLS.

See this forum www.davidcastle.org/BB which has the SEF URLS. Pretty simple to integrate, do a google search for PHPBB SEO URLS and you should be able to find the mod, the forum i gave only has a small part of the mod installed as it had a load of other SEO things included that really are'nt neccessary.

If you need a hand drop me a PM and when i get the chance i'll put together the code just to change the URLS and nothing else.

Lee what is / was your site? Is it now a rivals.net one?

Shhhhhh  yes and it's in need of much TLC, a hell of a lot, the site is nowhere near adequate these days but the mb keeps it alive.

I modded the guest session id's but when I tried the mod_rewrite I uploaded the .htaccess and then the site went down! couldn't find any help on google.

Try this, ignore the bit about installing the other mod, that contains a load of useless stuff that you don't need. (Actually you might need a tiny bit of the code but try this first and if it does'nt work PM me and i'll dig out the other bits of code you need.)

When installing the .htaccess file, you need to install it in the directory of the forum and not the root directory.

    Hope this helps.

Okay you see all the code i've entered above?

If you follow the instuctions they tell you which files to open to edit, then which section of code to find, and then either add after, before or replace that code with the code they give.

They also give you the code which works with their mod to put in your .htacess, which in this instance is
    Code:
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteRule ^forums.* index.php [L,NC]
    RewriteRule ^post-([0-9]*).html&highlight=([a-zA-Z0-9]*) viewtopic.php?p=$1&highlight=$2 [L,NC]
    RewriteRule ^post-([0-9]*).* viewtopic.php?p=$1 [L,NC]
    RewriteRule ^view-poll([0-9]*)-([0-9]*)-([a-zA-Z]*).* viewtopic.php?t=$1&postdays=$2&postorder=$3&vote=viewresult [L,NC]
    RewriteRule ^about([0-9]*).html&highlight=([a-zA-Z0-9]*) viewtopic.php?t=$1&highlight=$2 [L,NC]
    RewriteRule ^about([0-9]*).html&view=newest viewtopic.php?t=$1&view=newest [L,NC]
    RewriteRule ^about([0-9]*)-([0-9]*)-([a-zA-Z]*)-([0-9]*).* viewtopic.php?t=$1&postdays=$2&postorder=$3&start=$4 [L,NC]
    RewriteRule ^about([0-9]*)-([0-9]*).* viewtopic.php?t=$1&start=$2 [L,NC]
    RewriteRule ^about([0-9]*).* viewtopic.php?t=$1 [L,NC]
    RewriteRule ^about([0-9]*).html viewtopic.php?t=$1&start=$2&postdays=$3&postorder=$4&highlight=$5 [L,NC]
    RewriteRule ^mark-forum([0-9]*).html* viewforum.php?f=$1&mark=topics [L,NC]
    RewriteRule ^updates-topic([0-9]*).html* viewtopic.php?t=$1&watch=topic [L,NC]
    RewriteRule ^stop-updates-topic([0-9]*).html* viewtopic.php?t=$1&unwatch=topic [L,NC]
    RewriteRule ^forum-([0-9]*).html viewforum.php?f=$1 [L,NC]
    RewriteRule ^forum-([0-9]*).* viewforum.php?f=$1 [L,NC]
    RewriteRule ^topic-([0-9]*)-([0-9]*)-([0-9]*).* viewforum.php?f=$1&topicdays=$2&start=$3 [L,NC]

Okay its nearly worked there is a tiny bit of code you need from the other mod, i'm a bit hectic today but if you can wait 48 hours i'll dig it out.

If you look at the urls, they now read /phpbb/forum-3.html

The last bit needed is to remove the SID bit for non members, when your logged in the URLS should look the same as before.
