o.k ! we all know billie piper just married lawrence fox and i know there's issues of trademark e.t.c but i regged this name in good faith as i created a character called billie fox as in a fox named billie- so i wondered do i have interlectual property rights to this name ?
also fox is the name of a mammal therefore partially generic right ?
is it worth disputing ?
i would only ask £1500 then maybe less ?

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I believe UK celebrities rarely trademark their names, although some of the top footballers have now started to do it. Therefore, it is unlikely in this case that a trademark exists. You can check UK trademarks at:

They don't need to register an official trademark, as everyone automatically has rights to their own name.

I wouldn't have thought you'll have many problems as actresses usually keep the branding they built up on their previous name. Plus she didn't use the name "Billy Evans" when she was with Chris.

Not true in relation to rights to a name - under UK law you would need to show either a registered mark or goodwill based on trade under the name.

There is guidance on the WIPO site on how things have been applied under the UDRP.

You may well be right about the second bit though.

sorry yep, meant you have some rights to protection of your name, but how far those rights will get you are up to other interpretation.
