Company Director info

I'm after a favour Does anyone have the ability to search on a directors name/address and find out what companies they are a director of? If so I could really do with your assistance please.

Much appreciated, Grant

Have you spoken to Companies House? I don't mean checked their web site, that only provides the basics. There is a lot more you can buy over the telephone, and it's cheap. Just have you're credit card on the ready.

Failing that, you can use creditgate.com for directorship data, it's fairly reliable.

If you don't want it traced back to you, use a private investigator as a third party for a couple of hours work. You'd be amazed what other useful bits of information they have access to!

If they're getting access to this info free then surely there's a way for individuals to do it.

It reminds me of services like NetHousePrices which gives you the sold prices for houses on your street (free access to this info though), or even the companies that charge for foreclosure information (especially US reposessions). How do they get access to this info, some charge $50 a month to access.

WoopWoop - Companies House have an XML system that you can tap into.

You can do queries on Companies and/or Directors for free to see the results but if you want the detail (such as a set of accounts, or a director's full details and list of companies that he/she is a director of) then you have to pay.

These sites, I think, just provide a front end to that data and charge you a bit of a markup.

Thanks bb99, that's interesting.
So I guess when I use these sites to search a director, when they show me a list of names with a load of other details blanked out, they are just utilizing the free xml feed from companies house (and they don't at that point have the info that they are showing blanked out! Just when I pay, then they have a system of paying companies house and retrieving the rest of the data...

Interesting and seems like a good business, little risk, just investment in the site's design and coding...

Thanks again

That is correct!

I looked into this sometime ago (3 years maybe) and I think my biggest problem with it was that the system became unavailable at certain times - a bit like the Companies House WebCheck thing which closes at night - this may no longer be the case.

You can get similar data elsewhere but from what I can recall it was not in the same way, nor could you have a free poke around as part of your searches before actually paying for anything.

You've hit the nail on the head though - if you can invest in the site's design/coding and you already have some domains/hosting then your only costs come in from when someone does a paid report. Which of course they've paid for. Don't forget the advertising though
