.co.uk version

Hi,

Hope this is in the correct section, i recently thought of a website to be used in the uk. So I went out and bought some domain names related to the idea. Upon further research it was apparent that there is a .com equivalent and i bought the .co.uk by accident. The .com version is for the american market.

I am an absolute beginner at this so my question is what do i do? do i contact the .com company to see if they would like to start a .co.uk company or say nothing and start my own with a different name that i purchased. By contacting them i would be alerting them to the fact they could be missing out on the uk market wouldn't i?

Also did a trademark search and the name i bought isnt trademarked but as the .com owner has a number of sites his main name is trademarked. does this mean all other names are subject to the trademark?

The .com version is currently getting 400000 hits a month. My .co.uk site would be very similar in purpose.

Any opinions would be appreciated.

Most of the time there is nothing wrong with the .com being used by one entity and the .co.uk not.

What type of domain is it though? Is it purely generic/descriptive, brandable, or a combination of the two?

Not sure what generic/descriptive means, Sorry very new to this!

It is a site where people can give a review about something they bought/use, and then look up other reviews. The products though would be from the uk.

.co.uk versions

I did a quick check and there is nothing on the trademark in the uk. I also phoned nominet for some advice but they couldn't really give me an opinion they said try it and see.

Think i will use a different name.
