    Not for me actually.

    Take fortnumandmason
they have the .com and co.uk why do they need .London

if they wanted fortnumandmasonlondon they could have it as
fortnumandmasonlondon.uk and it would be far better than
    fortnumandmason dot London

so for me it's a very bad example.

.uk does it in one way or another for everyone.

Why is there a space between the "domain name" and ".london" on their advert, that wouldn't work ;)

Don't know why they have a space there, but it's not on their site branding? I'm tempted, some good dictionary ones are £30/year. I think that of all these new extensions, .bigcities are going to catch on the most but still not to very large extent...

Why at the end does it say "register your domain by the 31st of July" like you wont have an option to register one after that.

    This one I do like:
    takeaway.london £250 yr

Yes, I know takeawaylondon.co.uk is for sale for £850 but is not the same. The one above is in a different league (imo) and I could envisage seeing this plastered on buses, etc.

I think this one is a bargain and someone with mighty £'s and vision could make this a serious contender to justeat in the Uk's largest city.

Why settle for .london when you'll soon have the opportunity to get .soho or .piccadillycircus, extensions that more accurately describe your local focus.

Where are you all getting these prices from? I thought until the 31st of July anyone could put in an application, then it went through the priority process? Then to auction if 2+ people applied at the same winning priority in this order:

    1. Those in the Trademark Clearinghouse
    2. Those having a London address AND a right to a name (e.g. it matches their business name)
    3. Those having a London address for any name
    4. Those without a presence in London

I don't follow... there will be many thousands of people whose target market is the whole of the city.

I see... well I'm confused  Why are some domains available through mindsandmachines.com and not 123-reg, like takeaway for example? I thought in this phase that anyone could apply for a domain, and then it went to whoever won on that priority order (or to auction if there was no winner)?

Takeaway.london is a crap domain, I wouldn't buy it outright for £250, let alone pay £250 a year for it

    www.takeaway.london
    takeawaylondon.co.uk

They're exactly the same length. Bear in mind 'takeaway.london' is unrecognisable as a domain name, so you are going to be forced to put the www. before it to ensure people even know its a domain name.

that aside, i don't think its great for a business model either. You can't sell it to an end user. London is far too large... no takeaway places are likely to deliver london wide. Any that do, will be a bigger brand and will use their brand domain.

You also can't use it to compete with justeat, as you wouldn't want to restrict yourself to london only. So who exactly is even going to use a domain like this?

    You smudge things.

    www.takeaway.london
    www.takeawaylondon.co.uk

'takeaway.london' is unrecognisable as a domain name
I think that will change quite rapidly. I'm sure there will be plenty press and publicity. Anyone outside London won't know about it but it's not for them. It's for Londoners.

I bet more "non internet savvy" Londoners will know about ".london" than they will about ".uk" by the end of this year.

I was talking about a business model springing up to take on justeat in London. Not your local "Stavros 3in1" purchasing.

Any that do, will be a bigger brand and will use their brand domain.
For a new business modeled on justeat, I would argue that it IS the perfect brand. "takeaway london"
How easy is that to remember?

You also can't use it to compete with justeat, as you wouldn't want to restrict yourself to london only
Is a readymade customer base of 8+ million people not enough for you?

You want to take on McDonalds?

Anyway, it's all pie in the sky hot air.

I agree with Monkey, looks crap and there are no uses for it. takeaway.london isn't something you could build a brand on. It doesn't even sound right in my opinion.

"Where'd you get that Pizza from?"

    "Takeaway.London"

    "You what?"

Put that up against the likes of Justeat and Hungryhouse then it's a non starter.

McDonald's is a food retailer. Justeat is a takeaway booking service. I fail to see the connection.

I think you'd have to be an idiot to launch a Just Eat competitor targeting 1 single Geographic location. What advantages are there of doing it as opposed to having something open to the entire UK? There are none :D it would be like starting a competitor to Moneysupermarket but only allowing people from Birmingham to use your site.

Let's be optimistic and say you managed to get it off the ground in London. Where do you go from there when you want to expand? You are stuck.

I also think you will struggle to make money on just London alone. And when you can't scale the business and are having to throw £££'s at competing with JustEat just to capture a piddly amount of their market share then you know it's unviable.
