Alternative Registrars.

I have always bought .co.uk's thru 123-reg.co.uk, but over the last months, they have become unreliable.

They quite happily take my money, but are not always registering my domain names with nominet. On some occasions someone else has registered the domain DAYS after they have taken the money from me, and one some occasions I have tried and paid upto 3 times to register domain names and still not them registered.

So who do those who don't hold a tag use that have never presented such a problem ?

Looking for a larger company at similar prices who has been around a while ideally ?

I have used telivo.com for a few years now for registering my .UK domains. They have always provided great customer service and have good prices for .UK domains (just over a fiver for 2 years).

Well 123-reg tell me now that my domain purchases havent been accepted by nominet because my postcode was not accepted, however its been accepted on countless other domains, and by 123-reg's system. It was also accepted on about half a dozen domains 26 hours later, and 1 domain 16 hours before. They didnt tell me there was a problem and have happily taken around £200 a week off me on the same details thus far.

I have now created accounts on telivo and on daily, the EXACT same info was registered on daily on the EXACT domains 123-reg wouldnt register and they was showing on the whois within about 30 seconds of me paying. (this is how long it took me to check the whois).

Learn a lesson from me, check the whois on EVERY 123-reg purchase you name.

I have has this problem on 5 domains out of 30 in the last few days, so almost 20% failure is crazily high.

*edited as I forgot to close my brackets and had 2 typos*

If you're spending £200/week, then why not get your own Nominet membership and reg names directly?

ZenDOS is on a distinguished road

If you are not intended to deal with Uk based registrars only, I can recommend you sibername.com as a quality registrar for .co.uk. They are ICANN and CIRA accredited and have been running for a long time to be considered as reliable and stable. Prices are attractive and services are also well done.

I am considering applying for a tag, if only for access to the dac and try to capture my own names. I don't always spend that much on a weekly basis, the last few weeks alot of names, I've liked have come up.

Also not all the £200 is with nominet, some .tv's lots of .com's and some .net/.org's thrown in too, Altho, I have just moved all my .com's to godaddy (£3.50 a yr) and register4less (free privacy at £7 a year), the final transfers are all going thru now.

I'm going to go back thru my invoices over the last 12 month and work out, how much I've spent, I have to do this anyway as I've found over a dozen domains 123-reg hasn't regged.

I know its £400 reg fee, but what are the subscriptions and other costs ?

Sorry its gone off topic

£100/year and DAC is either £20 or £25.

If you move your other domains to a registrar with an API you could manage all your domains from a single home brew solution. I've not moved my PHP Nominet code to EPP yet, but EPP in C# is quite straightforward if you wanted a desktop based app to manage names.

I'm giving that serious thought now, if my spending continues for the next few weeks, I'l go for that option

I'm now sticking with Daily.co.uk which seem to register the domains instantly.
