![]() | Well to be fair mate if someone reg's with them again knowing the way they operate then the individual can't complain imo.

![]() I have never ticked a box or agreed to anything when buying a domain to say use my card for future renewals. Have you Boxerdog? Anyways couldn't speak to any team leaders or management about the issue as I do think thats the only way to put it to bed but was advised to write a letter and post it FAO Management !!! WTF

There's one way to avoid this. I regged some domains yesterday with 123-reg, and paid via Paypal. No card details stored! Though in other news, I didn't get a bulk domain discount even though it's clearly advertised on their site... so now I'm wrestling with Support too! Mike. |

@ Miked, although you can hand reg names and pay with PayPal at 123, if you want to renew names at any point, you have to pay with a credit card, they don't allow renewals by PayPal

There's a lot of this about - you can't get out of a credit card renewal unless the charging company removes the debit -and I don't know why - But be careful with Paypal, too. I did a cheap reg with a US company recently and they popped a future fee debit onto the Paypal account! Yes, I can remove it within Paypal, but be aware that it can happen ... |

From 123-reg's perspective, they would have more problems if they didn't auto-renew for their customers than by doing it and upsetting a few people who thought they would let their domains expire. It's always worth checking a registrar's policy on this as different ones require different procedures. Not every process is suited to everyone's way of working - I suppose what 123-reg are catering for is casual website/domain owners; if they go on holiday for a couple of weeks, they don't want to get back to find their site has been down for a long time because they require a manual renewal. Of course, the best option is to give everyone the choice of auto-renewing or not auto-renewing individual domains with a checkbox option. 123-reg aren't particularly cheap these days so you shouldn't really have a problem finding a registrar that has a panel that has the features you require and also maybe slightly cheaper. |

Your card details aren't actually stored in their entirety (this is against pretty much every card processing regulation around) but a special code that allows a repeat transaction from the same merchant.
