![]() | Another 1&1 problem
Hi all, I recently registered a .co.uk for the first time ever through 1 & 1. Soon after this (largely as a result of reading all the negative feedback about them on this forum + the fact the name wasn't that great anyway) I decided to cut my losses and went through their ridiculously convoluted cancellation procedure to make sure the domain didn't renew and to ensure I wasn't charged anything further by them (I then went through the necessary procedure on Paypal to make sure they didn't keep on charging me automatically) I didn't get a confirmation email from 1&1 as I was supposed to but was able to log in to the 1&1 account and confirm that the cancellation had gone through. I've now logged into my Nominet account for the first time ever to try and delete this domain name completely and am getting a message that it cant be deleted "as it hasnt been paid for". I have had no further communication from 1&1 demanding payment and have checked in my Paypal and bank accounts that the payment did in fact go through. I have just emailed Nominet with details of this (ie the transaction id). I suppose I just need to wait and see what they say but just wondering if anyone else has had this problem? I am assuming (based on all the horror stories I've been hearing about 1&1) that this is likely to be a problem caused by 1&1 rather than Nominet? Thanks for any advice |

If 1&1 are involved I'd almost guarantee it's their fault Had something similar. Bought hosting which came with a free domain but I was being charged stupid money for silly things usually free. Then payments were taken after I had cancelled my account and they claimed it's how their system works - it has to take my money then I wait 2 weeks to be credited back! I'd cancel every opportunity you have to stop them taking money from you, then stay well away |

Just wanted to update this thread with the outcome of the problem. To be fair to 1 and 1 it actually seems the problem was not caused by them this time. I received an email from them earlier confirming that they had received my payment and subsequent cancellation and would not be billing me for anything else. Was actually quite surprised how quickly they responded! I also received a reply from Nominet suggesting that the probable reason I can't cancel the domain directly with them is that THEY have not been paid yet by 1 & 1 (the domains was bought approximately 3 weeks ago and he said they tend to bill 1&1 for all their domains once a month) |
