I get prompt responses from real human beings there when I email support. That's on the drop-catching side, but I guess their registrar business must be similar...

hey Tom,

I have quite a number of doms with them currently (these were one's that for some reason heart couldn't reg them i.e. showing as unavailable), will be a large amount from heart to DM soon.

Their prices are comparable to Heart too.

As Edwin mentioned, their cust support is good (I did have a few issues with them initially but was quickly resolved), not had any ignorant or incorrect responses to questions both technical and non-tech either so that's a bonus (some firms seem to employ muppets to man their cs desks lol)

Wouldn't it be better to pop the names on your own TAG, then you don't have to rely on anyone other than yourself?

yes and no! the advantages of using 3rd party are the associated services they offer via a simple to use CP.

Doesn't everyone have their own system to create an Automaton / EPP mesage then

I guess I can see the benefit of a control panel for non-geeks, however, doesn't the web interface in the Nominet account do everything needed?

Is there a market opening for a control panel to front the EPP for members?

Theres also the advantage of not having your domains all on the 1 tag (especially your own) if you are doing A LOT of SEO

I've often thought about having my own tag but then the reasons for having one just dont seem worth the hassle in setting it up/managing it.

Maybe there is a gap for a whitelabel CP/EPP thingy

Interesting SEO comment, given that with mergers over the years, a lot of TAG's are now owned by the same parent company, won't the algorithms just be updated to group these loosing any SEO benefit?
