To make a decent stab at being an ICANN accredited registrar you'd want to be starting with at least a quarter of a million quid - based on being a consumer facing company. If you were just thinking of doing it just to house your own portfolio it wouldn't be worth it (certainly if you were starting from scratch).

It wouldn't be consumer facing, just private use. More thought and maybe next year.
