Transferring Expiring .co.uk Domain Name - Problem

Hi,

Hoping someone can help me out here.

I sold a .co.uk domain name today that was due to expire in less than 7 days time. We transferred it on Nominet and it was successfully moved to the new owners Nominet account. However, when he tried to add the domain to his NameCheap account they told him he couldnt because it expires in less than 7 days and that I should have renewed it before transferring it to him.

The only way he has been told he can do it is to get a eNom reseller account for $250 (the domain tag is now set to eNom), renew the domain through them and then transfer it to NameCheap.

I have contacted my registrar and they said it was strange as there were generally no such restrictions on .co.uk domain names but as the tag has already been changed they cannot do anything about it.

Could someone tell me what is happening here, who is right, and most importantly, what we can do to ensure the buyer gets the domain he paid for?

Thanks

123-reg are usually good at renewing this type of domain not sure if they go back that far though.
I'm guessing there going to have to force the tag change through the nominet account but thats a lot cheaper to do that then coughing up $250

Do a TAG change to another Registrar in Nominets online account. Only £10+VAT

Enom are nightmare when it comes to .uk.

There's no technical restrictions on transferring the domain during renewal, you could re-tag the domain to another registrar who will allow transfer close to renewal.

If you get stuck, contact me and you could pop the domain on my TAG, renew it and pop it back to the customer's desired registrar.

Thanks everyone, it seems 123-reg do not allow transfers for domains within 7 days of renewal so we cant use them. However, I am speaking to my registrar to see if we changed the tag back to them could we perhaps then renew the domain and then change the tag back to the buyers preferred registrar.

It is all made a bit more complicated by the fact the buyer is not UK based and therefore limited as to which UK registrars he can sign up with.

The buyer has now contacted eNom and they have said they should be able to renew it manually for him without him having to get a reseller account so now just waiting to see if they do this for him.

If not then my registrar said if we change the tag back to them I can renew the domain and then we can change the tag back and that should be fine.

Thanks for all your help!
