1and1 billing me for non-existent domains

Id complain to the "office of fair trading" but wasnt there a thread on here where someone was taking them to court for the same reason?

I am thinking of contacting OFT.

I would pay, if the domains were with them but i have cancelled them or moved them .

Nominet are just looking after their own agenda . Thousands of people must have complained.

This is the response i had from Nominet.

Nominet Best Practise for Dealing with 1&1 Complaints:

1. Open YetAnotherComplaintAboutOneAndOne.txt
2. Copy contents to clipboard
3. Click 'Reply to Email'
4. Paste contents from clipboard
5. Click 'Send'
6. File under 'Trash'

Although in fairness there is a contract as they mention between the user and 1&1 so I guess apart from putting pressure on 1&1, what can they do?

Probably more a case for OFT or Trading Standards to pick up and deal with.

There just seems something fundamentally wrong with 1&1 being able to charge for renewals that they cannot undertake and to then harrass people with debt collection agencies.

The simple answer is nothing because the domains are not with 1and1 .

To top things i didn't have any payment details registered with 1and1 as my debit card details have expired.

It might be worth having a chat with your local Trading Standards office. Don't underestimate their power.

It may be that this is outside of the scope of issues they deal with, but it might be worth a quick call to find out.

This often pops up from time to time doesn't it. Have they ever taken anyone to court or sent debt collectors not sure it would even be enforceable after all they haven't actually provided you a service so surely they wouldnt have a leg to stand on if it went to court.
I'm guessing its just bullying tactics how many people just pay up out of worry when they see a letter from a debt collector mistakenly thinking it can effect they credit rating or something.

This sort of thing really annoys me, because a company operates over the web they feel they can take a liberty and not face any repercussions.

Do as everyone else has said, OFT. Also make it very clear to 1&1 that you are a member of all the top relevant forums and quote names, and tell them you will be highlighting your case across all the forums. And then make sure you do!

Also think about media... could a local newspaper make a story out of it? I've seen some really crap stories (speaking dogs etc) in the newspapers so I would imagine they could. Make sure 1&1 know that you'll drag their reputation through every piece of mud you can find
