Reserved names

Anyone explain this:

video-.co.uk reserved

Just happend to show up when running a domain availability check as I'd forgotten to remove the hyphens.

It's the 'reserved' bit that is of concern and WHY they are being reg'ed/reserved.

drop-.co.uk reserved
is another 'off the wall' example, plenty of others...

Curious as to whay they would be listed as reseved...
Last night, even found one pointing to a 'plesk' page...

Thanks.

dashes are supposed to intimate foreign language characters aren't they? Quite how that works I am yet to understand.

didn;t think domains were allowed to end with or start with a hyphen.

This is what you get via Nom whois:

Error for "video-.co.uk".

This domain cannot be registered because it contravenes the Nominet UK
naming rules. The reason is:
third-level domains may neither start nor end with a hyphen.

But -

Running a search via Domain Name Pro returns - 'Reserved' as the status...
