![]() | Selling domain name to magazine
Hello, A Popular Car Magazine (Dedicated to a make of car) owned by IPCMedia changed their name about half a year ago when rebranding. They still have the old name as their domain name. I have managed to get hold of the new name which used to be registered and owned by another website for years. I approached them and they have said they are interested in it and do I have a price in mind... In this kind of situation what is the best way to play it? Should I get them to make an offer or hit them up with a price. What kind of price would you put on the domain name? Its a short 2 worded .co.uk and is the exact name of the magazine. Gets alot of type in traffic obviously. Any help appreciated! Thanks, Mat |

Put yourself in their situation. They don't want to offer a price in case you were thinking a much lower one and you don't want to ask for a price in case they're prepared to go much higher. I'd personally get a domain valuation from Sedo (whether they're worth the paper or not) and at least you have (a) something to work from and (b) something to show them if they want justification for the value. I will offer more advice via PM |

You can also get an idea of how much money the business makes by enquiring (anonymously obviously) about their advertising rates. To get a general feel for domain pricing, see: http://www.domainprices.co.uk/ http://www.webref.eu/domain-name-trading-resources.php Once you've got a feel for how much money the company makes from this website, judge what is a reasonable asking price, then check you would be happy with it, then add a negotiating cushion to it, say half or a quarter more, and say that is your "Buy It Now" price, but you are open to offers. Just be polite and business-like, because there the only people that are going to buy it off you. Good luck Accelerator

Would you suggest writing to IPC Media Directly or the specific Magazine Department? Mat |
