A very brief summary would be that it's saying 2008 will be a year where big business realises the value of generic domain names, and development of domains becomes more popular as people realise the multiples of income that can be achieved over PPC. Rgds Accelerator

A quote from the article: “Internet traffic and domains are the prime real estate of the 21st century. This market has matured, and individuals, brands, investors and organizations who do not grasp their importance or value are missing out on numerous levels.” Steve Forbes, CEO of Forbes, Editor-in-Chief of Forbes Magazine and former U.S. presidential candidate. Personally if I lost my income, I'd sell my house and rent for a few years before I sold my domains. Only thing I can see going wrong with most of my portfolio is nominet going to the .uk ext and wiping out the .co.uk ext, Apart from that, no worries.

Do you think the yanks are heading this way? It would make sense as we are the second largest tld of the english written word. But there again, take a look at all the big live auctions of last year. They were only interested in .com ![]() I think he who has the biggest balls will see the light and invest. They will never receive the same return as .com but that is all but gone for true generics and they will still receive a healthy return on their investment in the UK in the long term. I see things changing over the next few years and it will be the marketing boys who really take command. Run of the mill .com, .co.uk and whatever will stagnate. What will come into play will be true generics of any tld. We already see it happening with the .tv tld. We see .tv on our screens almost evey night. To the lamer it means "television". To the learned it is the tld of Tuvalu. A tiny island with a total population of less than 12,000. Amazing what the marketing boys can do! He who dares wins.... If you have the money to market a name and market it right, it will not matter what the extension is, it will be impregnated on the publics mind and they will type it in their browser. This is where the marketing boys come into their own. ...... A company has £2mil budget. They cannot afford to buy loans.com as it would cost them £3mil. So they buy loans.am for £50K and they pump the rest into tv advertising, only to be shown in the mornings but they have the money to show it every morning for the next 8 months. At the end of it, anyone who watches tv in the morning will be typing it into their browser. ....................... I bought harley.st for £30 last year and 3 months later sold it for £1k to the largest private hospital in Harely St. Some will no doubt call them stupid, but I know they have seen the light. (and so do they) Bump that on the telly long enough and you can kiss the equivalent .com or co.uk goodbye. In fact, http://www.harleyst.co.uk and http://www.harleystreet.co.uk/ were parking pages when I sold harley.st and still are now. Anyways, just my rant and the way I see things going. . | Founding Member | The auzzys and americans are already making inroads - it would not suprise me to see a couple of bigger portfolios ending up abroad. It is good and bad if the bigger prices get made public... good for people who already own names, bad for those who dont.
