![]() | Alexa Ranking or Google Ranking? Which is more desireable?
If you were looking at regging a name that is about to drop (.com / .net etc) and you wanted to get something worthwhile for traffic would you consider the Alexa Ranking or Google Ranking to be more worthwhile? Also on the subject of domain research, how do you know what domain is worthy of the purchase for type in traffic? For example (and I bring this up a lot) I have the following domain name: www.movie-watch.com and bought it a few years aho with a view to building a business round it. Well I never got round to it and it sat in my 123-Reg control panel since then. Anyway I finally listed it at Sedo, only to notice it got a lot of type in traffic (currently over 150 UV's per day) and is actually producing about $100+ per month in adsense revenue. Now I fell on this by accident but would obviously like to find other natural traffic getting domains to add to my portfolio. Is there a technique you guys use to do this or is it trial and error? And since I'm in a questioning mood I will add this last one in. I read that it's possible to buy domains, keep them for a few days and drop them for a full refund if you change your mind. Can you do this? Which extensions allow this? And more importantly, how is it done? Thank you in advance good people.

When you say Google Ranking do you mean PR or actual SR placement? If it was a choice between PR and Alexa rank they are both close in my book. Neither one is really tha important and both can be faked easily so do your research before buying if you must base the purchase on either factor. Other people base their purchases on DMOZ listing, archieve history, age and/or backlinks. As far as I am aware domain tasting is not allowed by Nominet. Some registrars offer it but normally it is simply becuase they offer a 5 day drop and refund service incase you register an incorrect name, do it too often and they dont like it. You also still have to pay a $0.25 ICANN fee per name. Hope this helps, Rich
