I remember reading a post on NP a few months ago where someone asked a similar question. Someone replied (from memory it could of been Rob) giving this guide; if a .co.uk is worth £1k then the .org.uk would be worth approx £100 and the .me.uk would be worth approx £10. |

Off the top of my head I reckon about 1/50th of the value of the .co.uk, but I think the proportion will rise quite rapidly as .me.uk becomes more accepted. Rgds

If a .co.uk was worth £20k, say Norwich.co.uk, then yes, £400 for Norwich.me.uk, would sound about right. Thanks for your thoughts. | |

interesting... i've been experimenting with a few keyword .me.uk's recently. for example: ok I realise its Yahoo but better g takes some work but it ranks above John Lewis dishwashers - Yahoo! Search Results not bad for .me.uk im not complaining if it makes 5k affiliate sales per month - I can tell you this its probably making more than the .co.uk is at the moment but I guess the .me.uk will always be the poor mans .co.uk In anwser to you question imho I would say a geo name is not going to be as good as you'l struggle to get the credibility when you want them to advertise - unless it has exceptional serps.

The difference in value is purely in the publics perception of the .me.uk and .org.uk domains. If looking purely in off-line marketing perpective, then no doubt about it, .co.uk is streets ahead. However, on-line, as has been said many a time, in terms of Google, there is no difference between .co.uk, .org.uk and .me.uk. So in trying to get a site ranked on Google, they have the "same value". I believe the value really depends on the genre of the keyword(s). If your site is offering a personal service, then the .me.uk variant has a certain ring to it and therefore the value can outweight the corresponding .org.uk. I think it is wrong to generalise about 1/50th. There are some domains that you will never be able to buy, as the domainer is in it for the longer time, or it's owned by a competitor, so what is the next best option? Yes, I do have a vested interest in promoting .org.uk and .me.uk as I have picked up some decent keywords on them, but I wouldn't spend the money if I didn't believe what I was saying. I've turned reg fees into £xxx on some of these domains, so they can't be that bad!!

I've picked up a few half-decent keywords in org.uk recently, on the premise that they should be as easy to rank as a co.uk. I do tend to go for more organisational or educational keywords, such as 'documentaries', rather than blatant commercial type keywords eg. plasmatvs etc. ![]() Haven't invested in any me.uk names yet though - something about it doesn't sound right for most names for me. |

I would say most people 90% + when looking through results in search engines don't look at the ext of the domains. They just look at the Title and description more to decide whether to click or not. If one stands out more due to the key word density then that would be the one clicked or it might be the order of the words in the title match what they typed in their search. We are all domainers so will have that outlook .com #1 .co.uk #2 etc but Joe/Jo public doesn't. Jo wants a "pink fluffy handbag" do you think she gives 2 hoots whether she's going to a .me.uk or to a .co.uk ? So if having a domain just for SEO reasons (pushing aside reselling value) then why hell yeah use .me.uk's, they don't perform any less in search engines and Google isn't domainist. We need to look outside the box people! But will say one last thing.... to become excepted more the site on the .me.uk ext etc would need to be an equal standard to standard .co.uk's then it would be on performance rather than the letters after the domain and so on that note I would say sat with no site yes a lot lower value with a website looking and running as good as the .co.uk then it would be on revenue from it not the letter after it. Therefore, is the gap between value of the .co.uk and other .uk domains decreasing, especially within the domaining community? Yes, the gap will always exist due to type-in traffic being biased towards .co.uk and .com, but with more reliance on search engines, is this becoming less of an issue? C
