Do you blame them? God even if there's the remotest chance .eu takes off, then they're sitting on a gold mine. It's no different from buying .com/ .co.uks in 'future technologies' that may never materialise....there's always the chance!

But agreed investors that risked tens of thousands including benelux TDs have risked alot more than the rest of us.

I'm giving my opinion from a UK perspective. The .eu may end up a success in the countries that adopted the euro but I don't think it will ever be favoured here in the UK even though I'm sure the political elite will try using .eu as another tool to kill off UK independence.

Codebreaker required to decipher the above. a .eu domain official would be ideal.

Agreed, it seems that the tosh %age has balanced out into .eu ... the usual 'I had to catch it so it must be good' mindset hitting landrush

I think in the age of 'Europe' there is now a strong swing back to being nationalist. I think even though germans etc will proudly say they are european you wont see them driving a rover etc they still have extremely strong loyalty to their local businesses.
With this in mind i will continue to buy .co.uk especially as i understand them, if i was to buy fr or es domains then i would look to buy words in the native tounge for maximum potential. The eu for me is out in no mans land so not really interested at this stage.

Again this is just an opinion the fun is if everyone sticks to their beliefs and we'll see who wins in the end

good luck

Dsmiley is on a distinguished road

the fact remains that in the long term (yes I do own longterminvestment.eu) that european business is conducted in english, eu is also a two letter tld, also as we all know people have gone to a lot of bother to set up bogus companies to book them, many of these are already very wealth domain owners, and probably know a bit more than me, that why they have "moved here" trade marked them and done whatever it takes to get em.....never been seen before........time will tell, it will be interesting to see, that is what makes this game quite exciting....... some of the .eu do read well....Im sure I am going to see a lorry with europeantransport.eu, as a euro business it just reads better......im not so sure with argos.eu etc. just dosnt seem to read right....

To English speaking countries... however to Bob Spaniard it will mean sweet FA

Unless they register transporteeuropeo.eu and have that on their lorry as well!

Generally euro business is english and fair amount in german etc, but still cannot discount other countries, as thats not really 'europe' then.

As you say, time will tell

So we conclude:

Person to person activities that are local to an area or country e.g. dating, chat, medical, some mortgages, loans and debt consolidation etc will be mainly ccTLDs e.g. .fr .es etc and if .eu then will be in their own language.

Business to consumer that is local to an area e.g. Electricity supplies, local shops, etc will be mainly ccTLDs and if .eu will be in their own language.

Business to consumer that is not local e.g. property, price comparisons, etc and Business to business across borders e.g. transportation, corporate finance etc will most likely have an english representation (maybe alongside their local language version).

And added to the last category, anything that US or English speaking foreigners are likely to search for e.g. travel, holidays, armaments, airport prostitutes etc will likely be in English.

So adjust .eu registrations accordingly?
