UK v EU

Have UK sales dropped? any movement either up or down, no change, too early to say? just wondering whether people are buying 20 odd country brand domains rather than one country specific? is that how it will work?

I had a black moment earlier, worrying that the 60 million people I may target isn't enough and I should have gone for 450 million instead haha but then I realised none of my sites are google so who cares... perhaps?

Most of the .eu domains posted on this forum aren't worth a penny. Anyone looking for property, finance, shopping etc, etc, aren't going to type in .eu. Maybe after another 10 years of brainwashing things maybe different but we've had 33 years of brainwashing and the British public are more anti EU than ever. So, apart from a few exceptional generic domains (which were mainly snapped up by the Germans and Dutch) I can't see it ever taking the place of .co.uk and .com in the UK.

Being someone that listed a few 'worthless' .eus on this forum, i may as well comment...

I think where type-in traffic market is concerned .eu's won't be worth much...at least for quite a while (if ever). However, a keyword domain will always be sought for marketing purposes in search engines like msn (they are an easy way to the top). So if a business has the opportunity to get top ranking by using a keyword domain and the .co.uk etc have been snapped up then a .eu may seem like a great alternative...Of course the value is nothing compared to a domain that gets free type-ins.

Just my 2 cents...

I genuinely think you are better off registering a .es, .fr, .be etc rather than a .eu.

The type in traffic I've got from my .es so far has been really encouraging. I agree with what is being said here a) the man on the street hasn't heard of .eu and b) that same man on the street is one of the most likely people to search by type in rather than by search.

So, conclusion .eu PPC traffic and revenue will be poor but as with every extension a good generic is worth having for branding or SEO reasons.

And you can't beat owning that .com either, .eu is nice but it's very centric but a .com is universal. It's just with a new project I bought the .com as well as the .eu, time will tell if I needed to bother. If .eu is going to rank alongside .info then I've wasted my time.

I only usually go for .com / .co.uk / .net and at a push .org but found myself changing .org for .eu this time

So it's now .com .co.uk .net and .eu

So .org in this instance has lost out to .eu

I may even drop all my .org now

I'm not going to stop buying .co.uk as that's my language/central market but .eu allows for expansion to the east and .com allows for worldwide and as long as the revenue brought in covers the £25 a year set charge, no problem?

I see what you're saying from type ins on .eu and top keyword .eu but I think all these domainers with less than even good domains that I've seen on here, may have to cut their losses sooner than later.

Pah!

Radio, never heared of it, Television, never heared of it, video player, never heared of it,Sony walkman, never heared of it, Ipod, never heared of it, Podcasting, never heared of it .eu .................. e.t.c e.t.c......

Give it a bloody chance, it's only a month old, would you expect your roast dinner to be cooked in 1 minute, or your Guinness to be poured in 10 seconds..? NO!

I bet most of the Anti .eu's didn't get any.

So the one's who did might have wasted a couple of hundred quid................ But the one's who didn't aren't even in the race..........

But this is 33 years! The British public didn't want the euro, they don't like the EU and they won't want .eu - Most registrations are by domain investors who haven't thought this through and have purchased bucketloads of useless domains that will never attract any traffic let alone a purchaser.
