Ok, people, we have here pros semi-pros and actually people that make living buying and selling domains. But… Do you still register anything just because you like how it sounds? Not after checking keyword tool, CPC, etc. Something that you know could never be sold. Maybe a vanity name. So it’s a confession time. And because I’ve started this thread here we go with my vanity names from 2009: eAmicus(dot)com – Amicus in Latin is Friend, just like the sound of it iPromise(dot)eu – Simply sounds like “I promise you” What about your vanity domains? Anyone?

define useless? one man's rubbish is anothers gold. we've all made mistakes registering crap names but remember even names with low keyword volumes or little advertisers doesn't mean the name is useless. the only useless names i've regged are the ones i've spelt wrong which has happened once i believe.

I think I'm just about weaned off my habit of registering "sounds good to me" names after 14 years of domain registrations... Having said that, some are more useful than others

I've definitely become a lot more careful about the domains I register. If I am regging something for resale, then I now only really want .com or .co.uk, it's much rarer for me to consider lesser extensions. Rgds

The world's population is growing. Held for long enough useless can become gold. And you only need a 1 in 20 name conversion rate to make it worthwhile in the long run. The only bummer is the possible future expansion of .com/.net/etc domain names. That could kill everything one day. |
