![]() | Using a domain to increase the exposure of another
If I have a domain that exactly matches a product sold on another site. How should I use it to maximise exposure of the product? Should I use a 301 redirect from the domain to the product, set up a single page with a timed html redirect or set up a page that describes the product and persuades visitors to follow the link to it? Does a 301 redirect prevent Google from indexing? Does a timed redirect prevent Google from indexing, or if not does it reduce the change of page ranking and positioning? Finally will building a single page with a link increase the chances of Google positioning and page rank, hence benefit the long term success of the product page? I was just interested on the best course of action, there may be more so suggestions are appreciated.

![]() | A 301 won't do you any good unless the site already has backlinks / indexed pages etc. Quote:
Building a page / minsite / whatever on the "smaller" domain name and then linking with relevant anchor text is the *only* real way to maximise this situation. Doing this means that the "smaller" site ranks for the terms, and the sub page on the main site gets link juice and relevant incoming links from an on-topic source. | |

just what he said... all the rest is link farm dross, ffa & a waste that could in theory get your main site penalised as well. Funny really, had a 'business colleague' who made some real money in the early days doing thhis, until google really got their act together and slammed the door shut on this. Don't think he liked my blunt no sympathy approach! S |

Thank you for the help. I should really start making use of the related domains I have that I just 301 redirect!
